Obwohl ich 8 Minuten zu spät war - Frühstück für Hotelgäste ist nur bis 10 Uhr... - erbarmten sie sich im Denny's und ich durfte mir den Magen vollschlagen, am ersten Tag noch bescheiden mit Tee und Toast.
Danach gings zurück zum Flughafen, wo mein Mietwagen wartete. Kreditkarte und Führerschein präsentieren und schon kanns los gehen. Ich nehme die I10 Richtung Norden, Louisiana, ich komme!
Die Autobahn führt anfangs oft über Wasser und Sumpfgebiet, die Mangroven (glaub ich....) ein ungewohnter Anblick. Vorbei am Lake Pontchartrain und dann nach Baton Rouge, wo ich einen Zwischenhalt einlege. Laut Reiseführer muss man sich hier das State Capitol anschauen (27 verschiedene Sorten Marmor wurden verbaut) und vor allem die Aussicht vom 27 Stock geniessen.
Baton Rouge ist zwar die Hauptstadt von Louisiana, aber man fühlt sich trotz 230'000 Einwohnern wie in einer verschlafenen Kleinstadt. Deshalb beschliesse ich, meine Reise noch etwas fortzusetzen und bis nach Natchez (Mississippi) zu fahren.
Kurz vor meiner Ankunft ging die Sonne unter, was die Suche nach einem Hotel erwas erschwerte, dafür aber den üppigen Weihnachtsschmuck an haus und Garten so richtig zur Geltung brachte. Es gibt sogar eine Pferdekutsche und das arme Tier trägt einen Rentierschmuck auf dem Kopf - so geil! Leider sass ich im Auto und hatte keine Zeit, ein Foto zu machen. Na ja, ein guter Grund, auf einen Drink ins Städtchen zu gehen - vielleicht begegne ich dem "Ren-Ross" ja noch einmal :-)
